Urgent/emergent services do not require authorization “restoration potential” is not necessary. For procedures on the prior authorization list, avmed will review up to 5 (five) days after the procedure for medical necessity.
Emergent services do not require authorization Medicare coverage should not be denied simply because the patient’s condition is chronic or expected to last a long time Avmed follows the medicare plan eoc regarding “how to get services when you have an emergency or urgent need for care or during a disaster.”
Failure to obtain prior authorization for emergency services should never constitute a basis for denial of payment by any health plan or third party payer whether it is retrospectively determined that an emergency existed or not. Members must be eligible on the date of service and the service must be a covered benefit.
