Dose anybody have any input on a ingrid 38 she is a nice double ender full keel 26,000 displacment 8,000 balist 11.4 beam ketch Please help if you can 38 is an interesting boat, but its sailing characteristics would be more a credit for racing than cruising Cat 36 has a more measured response as the winds increase
Saduskysailor is correct the 38 is an awesome boat with a great racing heritage, but the 36 will be an easier short handed boat. The 38 is an old s&s design, pretty boat with tumblehome, it's the design frank butler took with him when he left s&s to form catalina Big genoa/skinny main, pinched ends old school design I think the premise is to purchase a sailboat with little value as a sailing vessel to use as a power cruiser, unless i missed the point
I am 71 and frequently single hand my 44 ft monohull But i started with a chunky 38 ft ketch I would recommend a cutter or a ketch with roller furling headsails Jeanne socrates circumnavigated single handed on a 38 ft boat at age 71
As to finding inexpensive places to have work done.
